Amplifier Restorations
I created this restoration video which outlines the rebuild of a very clean 45 year old amplifier. This is a best case scenario where the amp has been sheltered and un-played all these years. The only parts we HAD to remove and replace were the Electrolytic Capacitors found in the power and bias supplies. (The Electrolyte eats itself over the years and ends up non operational).
The wiring was also reworked due to sloppy factory work. Assembly lines are created to assemble things quickly which results in long/loose wires. You may ask : "Why do we care how long the wires are"? These wires carry information and when they are long and loose, the audio tends to couple to previous stages, grounds, heater supplies, power supplies and so on. The resulting sloppy amplifier can have a louder noise floor, pick up radio stations, sound murky or lacking in musicality. We rework the heaters, shorten signal paths and dress the circuits to perform at their best.
The next step (which wasn't performed) is to remove and replace the signal path. The "aged signal path" rolls off high frequency detail and mellows the bottom end. "New signal path" provides you with a higher definition / resolution of tone, plus a longer life for the amplifier with new parts.
